All of these positions will run from October 2026 until September 2028, with the exception of the Membership Chairperson which is a vacant position and the winner will serve out the remaining term, but applicants are welcome to re-apply when the position is up again in 2027 for a full term.

Assistant Commissioner — Competitive Division (2027-2028)

Wayne Dotson (He/Him)

Written Statement: “Hi SCSL members my name Wayne Dotson and I am your current Assistant Commissioner of the Competitive Division. I have been a member of SCSL since I moved to Pittsburgh in 2021 when I moved here from the Washington, DC area where I played In CAPS for over 20 years. I also served on the executive board as Assistant Commissioner, Division Representative, NAGAAA/IPRIDE rep and served on a host of other committees. I am very knowledgeable when it comes to the ratings system which always seems to be an issue.

I am running for another term because I love this league and want help it continue to grow and be successful. My plan is to build the upper division for next year by adding at least 2 more teams. I also will also continue to maintain the integrity of this league for all our members and players because you guys are my second family and I will always be here for you guys and listen to what you have to say. So, and concerns or issues you have about the league you can come to me anytime. Since joining the executive board, I have dedicated myself to the members and will always be here for you.

Thank you”

Treasurer (2027-2028)

Christina Medley (She/Her)

Written Statement: “Hi! My name is Christina Medley. I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska, but after several moves, I came to call Altoona my “hometown”. I have lived in Pittsburgh for 15 yrs now. I have been a part of SCSL for a little over 3 yrs, this is my 2nd year as a captain. I came to Steel City because I wanted a league that I could call “home”. My first year was with the Riveters, which they welcomed me with open arms and kindness. I play in several other leagues, but nothing compares to our league and how welcoming it has been to me and for most of our players.

I was contemplating on running for a position before but decided to hold off since I coach travel softball. Since then, I have been approached by a few people to reconsider. I have been playing softball for over 30 yrs, played professional football, coach and I umpire (slow/fast pitch). I am also the CFO of Three Rivers Behavioral Health (mental health hospital) in West Mifflin. With my background I know I could be a great asset to league as a board member. I will bring the player, umpiring and financial perspective, which will contribute to the stability, growth and integrity of our league.”

Fields Chairperson (2027-2028)

Amy Haushalter (She/Her/Them)

Nominated-By Statement: “Amy is the current Fields Chair and has done a great job!”

Written Statement: “Hey yinz! I am the current field chair signing up for a 2nd term (if you’ll vote for me!!) I just finished my first year with the Glitter Bombs & my 4th year in the sExy division of the league.

Fields is a considerable amount of work & dedication to the league. It definitely takes a village! I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve & appreciate everyone whose set up a field or assisted me this season.

I wouldn’t trade the meetings, early mornings, rain, mud and friendship for anything. SCSL has been the community I needed when I didn’t know what I needed & now absolutely would not be able to adult without it.

Thank you for taking the time to find out about me & VOTE to make our softball league the best it can be!!”

Marketing Chairperson (2027-2028)

Thomas Wright (He/Him)

Written Statement: “I moved to Pittsburgh in 2023 and discovered Steel City Softball not long after. I joined Outcry, and I’ve played with them for the past two years. When I joined SCSL, I thought I was signing up for a few hours of recreational softball on summer weekends. What I found was so much more: friendships that extend beyond the dugout, people who show up for one another off the field, and a league that becomes a lasting part of people’s lives. As Marketing Officer, I want to take a more active role in helping our organization grow, bringing more people in Pittsburgh into the kind of community many of us have found here, and making sure we shout our story from the rooftops in a way that is inspiring, authentic, and consistent.

This year marked SCSL’s 45th anniversary, a milestone that speaks to how deep our roots are in Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ+ community. That history is filled with people, teams, friendships, traditions, and stories across generations of players. Going forward, I’d like to do more to capture, celebrate, and share our community and history while highlighting the moments being created across the league today. For 45 years, Steel City Softball has been about more than what happens on the field, and we should lean into and be more intentional about broadcasting that message.

Our marketing efforts also need to create tangible, lasting value for SCSL. That means giving our sponsors more meaningful visibility, demonstrating the value of supporting the league, building stronger relationships with local organizations, making our events easier to discover and participate in, and creating more organic opportunities to introduce new people to SCSL. Done well, our marketing can grow membership and engagement, strengthen our partnerships, and position SCSL as an organization that businesses and community partners want to collaborate with and invest in.

I began my career in branding, marketing, and web design for small businesses and health and wellness companies. I later spent several years in advertising and marketing technology before moving into web infrastructure, where I now support businesses ranging from early-stage startups to Fortune 500 companies. Across those roles, I’ve learned how organizations use communications, technology, and data to reach people and build stronger relationships with their audiences. I’d love to bring that experience to SCSL, improving how we communicate, elevating the stories of our players and teams, strengthening our digital presence, and finding new ways for people to discover, connect with, and support our league.”

Membership Chairperson (1-Year Term) (2027)

Brian Werner (He/Him)

Written Statement: “Hello everyone! My name is Brian Werner, and I’m a born-and-raised Pittsburgher.

I joined the Steel City Softball League around 2013, thanks to one of my best friends, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I started my journey as a Ninja — eventually finding my way to the Peacocks. Today you’ll usually find me spending my weekends on the field with the Little Pigs.

I’m asking for your support to return to the Board as your Membership Chair.

Before joining the SCSL Board, I served on the Executive Board of the Steel City Volleyball League. During that time, we focused on growing membership by creating opportunities for people to connect outside of competition. We found that when people build friendships, they become invested in the league — and they invite others to be part of it. I’d love to continue that same approach to with our league by creating fun, welcoming social events throughout the year that strengthen our community.

One event that’s especially close to my heart is our annual Drag Softball Game. It’s become more than just a fun afternoon — it’s an opportunity to celebrate who we are, support our community, and introduce new people to our league in a welcoming, low-pressure environment. I’m excited to continue working with the Board and our amazing volunteers to help that tradition grow each year.

What I love most about this league is more than just the softball — it’s the people. The Steel City Softball League has worked hard to create a place where LGBTQIA+ individuals and our allies feel welcomed, respected, and valued. That sense of belonging is something worth protecting and expanding. As Membership Chair, I want to continue building a league where everyone — whether they’re a seasoned player, a first-time athlete, or someone simply looking for community — knows there’s a place for them here.

Thank you for your time, your support, and your consideration. I would be honored to serve as your Membership Chair.

Brian”

Membership Chairperson (1-Year Term) (2027)

Jacquelyn “Jax” Hawse (She/Her/They)

Written Statement: “I’m running for Membership Chairperson because I want to help our league continue to grow while keeping the welcoming community that makes it so special. Since joining the league, I’ve made some incredible friendships, and I’d love the opportunity to help more people find that same sense of belonging.

As the captain of the Glitter Bombs, I’ve seen firsthand what can happen when you bring people together. We started as a team made up entirely of free agents who didn’t know each other, and over time we became a close-knit group. Many of us have gone on to join other sports and leagues within our community, creating even more friendships and connections. I currently play in our E Division, and I know that division has some unique challenges. As the league’s entry-level division, it’s often where new players get their first experience with our community. I want to make sure those players feel supported, connected, and excited to come back season after season because a strong E Division builds a stronger league.

Outside of the league, I’m a Director of Food & Nutrition, where I manage teams, organize events, oversee budgets, and keep a lot of moving pieces running smoothly. I’m also a U.S. Army veteran, which taught me the importance of leadership, teamwork, and accountability. I’d love the opportunity to bring those skills to the board by helping recruit new members, strengthen retention, and create opportunities that make everyone stepping onto the field for the first time feel like they belong.”
