NAGAAA

The North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA) was created in 1977 to be a nonprofit, international organization, comprised of men and women dedicated to promoting amateur athletics specifically for the gay and lesbian community.

There were two divisions in NAGAAA – the Open Division and the Women’s Division. In late 2007, the Women’s Division chose to leave the NAGAAA organization and form their own organization, the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America. (ASANA) with 26 member leagues. Currently, NAGAAA has 37 Open Division Leagues. These Leagues make up the membership of NAGAAA in the United States and Canada.

NAGAAA is divided into four subdivisions: A, B, C and D. These subdivisions pertain to the skill level of play – A being the most skilled and D being the least skilled. This separation allows everyone to find a level of play which suits their skills and participation level.

NAGAAA provides leagues with the opportunity to travel to member cities in order to meet and compete with gay and lesbian athletes from across North America. In its annual winter meetings, NAGAAA informs member cities of upcoming tournaments, including the GSWS, which is held each year in a different member city.
